Capturing Bees & Cutting Firewood

Well, we have been busy here in our little neck of the woods!
My brother has been clearing alot of the dead trees, getting ready to put in a new road.
Little by little it is getting done and while he was working he ran into this hive OR
rather it ran after him!  He is highly allergic, so not a fun deal for him.

Here is where they had created a new home.

My very smart hubby decided that the way to trap or capture them would be to put a piece of plywood with a hole cut out for the bees to travel up into our hive.  The best thing would be if we had a drawn out frame with some brood to put in that hive, but we do not.
So a big bucket of sugar water to feed them and entice them to visit their new condo!

We started to clean up area to create a space for the plywood panel.
Now you can imagine they were not at all happy with us!  Yikes!
While putting on our BeeSuits, I asked my hubby to put his boots on and tuck the bottom of his suit into the boots, BUT no he did not think it was necessary..............
Not to say I told you so, BUT I told you so!!
We pulled 10 bees out of his socks and tennis shoes, his right foot had about 8 stings, and he got one on his hand, as well.

We also rubbed fresh lemons all over the frames and in the inside of the hive.  We have read that the scent attracts them, if not it sure smelled good at least!

We put soil all around the base of the hive to try to make sure they used the hole in the plywood and have to travel up through the hive to get to the entrance.  It was really fun and just so amazing these little creatures!  They are using the entrance and going out and foraging as they should.  We will let them settle in for a couple of days and then check their supply of sugar water.

We have determined a new spot to move the hive.  We are not sure if we will capture the Queen or if she is gone or dead.  We will order a new Queen if we cannot find her in the near future!

Finally we are BEEKEEPERS!  Yahoo!!

That was our objective yesterday, and today we tackled cutting firewood for winter!
We are late, but can get alot done before it really gets cold.

Just a pile of trees my brother had cut down a while ago.
My hubby cut and I loaded in wheelbarrow and took to carport to start stacking!

Little by little we will cut and stack...

The start of a warm winter!

I love days like these.  It feels like things are getting accomplished and falling into place.
It rained last night and has been overcast and gray all day, but has a fair amount of humidity in the air.  I am ready for crisp, cool weather!! Come on Autumn!!

Quote for the day:

"I've never known anyone yet who doesn't suffer a certain restlessness when autumn rolls around....
We're all eight years old again and anything is possible."
